I've made all the scrambled, fried, pickled, poached and deviled eggs that I can, and I'm up to my eyeballs in egg salad! I've been putting eggs in EVERYTHING from casseroles and salads, to cakes and cookies! My egg customers only want the really BIG eggs, and I've hatched as many bantams as I have room for - yet, my little hens continue to lay thru sunny, rainy, snowy, icey and freezing cold weather! And I really hate to see these eggs go to waste, so I thought I'd see if someone out there might enjoy hatching some...

This little flock consists of mostly silkies and cochins (both roosters and hens of each breed) in mixed colors that include blue/black/splash, red/silver/blue partridge, blue/black mottled, lavender/black split to lavender, buff, silver laced, and what I believe could possibly be lemon blue, silver penciled and platinum. Plus there are a few oddballs in this pen: 2 mille fleur d'uccle hens, 1 bantam splash laced red wyandotte hen, 1 Polish/silkie mixed hen, and 1 barred frizzled "whatchamacallit" hen. There are also a couple first generation sizzles in there, too, but they are too young to breed just yet. I plan to separate these birds by breed in the spring, but for now, they're living together just so they can keep each other warm at night.

SO... You should be aware by now that these eggs could produce either purebred or mixed bantam sized chicks, in a rainbow of colors, patterns and feather textures. I make no claims to which egg came from which hen, or which rooster she's been breeding with. I only know that all but 2 birds in this pen are purebreds - and I got them all from private breeders, or I bred and/or hatched them myself. So, although I cannot tell you whether they are show quality or not (because I personally don't show), I CAN tell you that none of my birds in this pen are hatchery stock. You can see pictures of some of them at http://www.krsimages.com under "The Flock". I will be adding pictures to that site as weather and time permits.

According to the USPS website, postage runs $14.50 for a large flat rate box, and is listed separate from the auction price. I will ship 12 of these eggs to the lower 48 states only, and will include any extras I have at the time of shipping. Eggs are guaranteed to be fresh and fertile, and I will pack them so that they are snug and insulated, but I cannot guarantee their viability once they reach their destination, because of circumstances beyond my control after they leave my hands. I plan to ship on Monday, 2/8, but I reserve the right to ship on Tuesday or Wednesday, in case of inclement weather or other unforeseen events. Payment will be accepted via Paypal at [email protected].

I think that covers everything - if not, please feel free to PM me or post here with any questions!

Thanks for looking - and happy bidding!

ETA: See post #3 for an explanation of the pics used in this auction - I tried to change the one, but the "edit" mode wouldn't let me!

Oooohhh! This sounds like fun!
I asked DH & he said, "No More EGGS!"
I may have to bid on them by 'accident'... we'll see.
So, is there a chance I could hatch out a cute little silvery chick like that one in your hand in the auction pic? Did it come from the pen that these eggs will be coming from?

LOL!! Mine says the same thing!!! So I just don't ask anymore!!!

If you bid tho, I'll never tell!!! Promise!

There actually IS a very good chance you can get a cute little silvery chick just like the one in the photo - that particular chick didn't COME from that pen, but it is IN that pen, all grown up now. That is my splash silkie roo, Scooter, when he first hatched last year - he and his blue brother (Skeeter, who is also in that same pen) came to me as eggs from Tracey (M@M@2FOUR on BYC), who's silkie eggs have sold for over $100 a dozen on a few BYC auctions, because she seems to win Best of Breed wherever she shows.

Thanks for catching that - now I'm thinking that perhaps I shouldn't have used that particular photo since *I* didn't personally breed him - but he is in this group, and may have fathered any of the eggs in this auction. Besides, its the only silkie chick photo I have on my new computer - I lost a lot of my photos when my old computer died a couple weeks ago, but I had this one uploaded on my photo site.

(BTW, the other chick pictured here DID come from this group tho - its a blue frizzled cochin.)

I am a "real" backyard breeder...I just pick out unusual chickens and put them together and see what I get. I am not familiar with all the acronyms that everyone is using so I apologize if I ask something that is actually in the auction narrative. Are there any of the "polish bantams" in this group that you had in your last auction? I tried looking up polish bantams but couldn't find anything about them. I thought all polish were standard size.

Thank you
Sandy

Hi Sandy -

No, there are no pure Polish bantams in this group. I keep my Polish bantams separate, in their own pen, because they get picked on so easily. And no, Polish come in both standard and bantam size.

There IS, however, a Polish/silkie cross hen in this group...

Is there a chance that you might have some more eggs past just what the winner of the bid will get? My daughter is trying her hand at incubating, and she was haertbroken when the thermostat broke a week into her first attempt at hatching in November, and I didn't have the extra money then to get her a new one, and her eggs didn't develop. She cried hard, and decided that she wanted to try again. So I got her the thermostat, she got the incubator set up to put some of our own eggs into, even though I don't think the roo has been mounting the hens, and then her sister was running through the room and knocked the carton of eggs down, and all but one egg broke. She only had 4 saved up, but she was devastated again. So I decided this time, I'll buy eggs! Someone has to have better fertility than I'm getting this winter, and we love bantams. We have pures and mixes, but they haven't laid any eggs at all this winter, only our standards are laying, and those were what she was trying to incubate. I'm doing my taxes hopefully this weekend, and I'll have money once it's in my account, and I'd like to try and get a dozen, or more if possible at that time. I figure if there are more eggs, it ups her chances of getting SOMETHING to hatch. If you'll have any eggs in a few weeks, I'd be interesting in getting some. And what would the total be? Thanks!

I'm sorry you've been having such bad luck!!! So far, the girls in this pen have been laying continually - *I* don't see any reason for them to stop, but you never know. PM me when you're ready and I'm sure we can work something out, ok?

I most definitely will, thanks!

Hi all -

This auction ends on Sunday, but we're expecting a couple feet of snow in the next 24 hours, and of course, if we lose power for any length of time, I won't be able to get online. Hopefully that won't be the case, but I wanted to tell whoever wins that if you don't hear from me right away, I'm not ignoring you, ok? I will be back online ASAP, and will get fresh eggs out to you as soon as I can dig out and get to the PO! Wish us luck!

Ok, power is still on, but we got almost 3 feet of snow dumped on us. There was no mail service yesterday, and there MAY not be any mail service tomorrow. Roads are still pretty much impassable, but I'll keep collecting and send only the freshest eggs as soon as I can get outa here or as soon as the mail carrier can pick them up!!! I'm hoping that will be by Wednesday, but I'll keep in touch with the winner as to our status, ok?
