Help! I'm looking for a dog breed that....

Pics
Are papillons the ones that lowkey look like beings of pure, unbridled rage?
A close friend has a cavalier and he is the sweetest, but not very well trained (not sure if that reflects on owners, or dog trainability)
I'm also concerned about their health problems.
I don’t recall any dog like that 😂🤣 they’re very sweet and active little dogs lol and cavs can def be trained cause I’ve seen them doing agility, rally, obedience, etc. 😊 they def have a lot of health problems though unfortunately but reputable breeders are working on it but it is a process.

I was looking at cocker spaniels and they seemed like a pretty good fit....thoughts?
I checked out brittanies but thought they seemed to high strung.
They’re good dogs but some of them can be a bit temperamental but that might be more the owner. And yeah brittanies can definitely be high strung lol but wonderful dogs! You might like French Brittanies. They are supposed to be calmer than their American counterparts and smaller too.

These things? pure evil
terrifying
(also yappy, so DQed)

I'll suggest cavaliers, but with the note about health issues.

Lol I think they’re cute but totally understandable! Hahah and not all of them are yappy. A lot of things you (general you) read about breeds especially little dogs have to be taken with a grain of salt because most people don’t train their little dogs haha but they can be trained to be quiet just like any other breed. I’ve known tons of Goldens that bark obsessively too. Not necessarily breed specific.

Honestly if you really want a Golden, I would say to just go for it. One of the people in our neighborhood have two and they have this like tiny little post stamp, it’s smaller than our garage, but they make it work and are out walking them lots.

I’m not saying I necessarily recommend that, they also only recently moved in within the last couple years so dogs are older, but it can work. I’ve seen them in apartments even. It is possible with work.

The exercise is the biggest thing of course but you can do lots of training, puzzle games, scent work, etc. etc. and other such mental stimulation indoors which is very tiring for dogs and/or go on lots of walks and hikes and make it work. Even something like a 20 or 50 foot long line for outside could work too because you wouldn’t have to fence and they could run and get exercise, fetch, swim, etc.

Smaller dogs aren’t necessarily less energetic. Corgis need tons of exercise still and might be yappy being a herding breed. So if you really want one, I think it can work. Would it be possible to get involved in a dog sport like agility, nose work, obedience, rally or something like that? That could help tire it out too. If you get a truly small dog then you can exercise them in a hallway tbh but you say you don’t want a super small dog. Even Goldens can be stimulated that way too though. I won’t say exercise since it’s not really but will help. My friends throw the ball up and down the stairs tons for their crazy one lol
Corgis do not need tons of exercise, just a daily walk, some obedience training, and other mental stimulation (even if it is just from play time). They do bark some but I would never characterize them as yappy. Especially if you only have one. Two are more likely to have occasional “bark-offs”.
