International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

View attachment 4282234My attempt at sorting the eggs out by who’s laid them. May not be accurate, especially with the paler ones.View attachment 4282235I watched Claudie lay this egg, so I know her egg now. This was heavy bloom, here are some from the days before:View attachment 4282237View attachment 4282238So her’s isn’t the glossier one from before. Maybe that one is Joan’s, but I’d need to keep an eye out be be sure.
that is great work getting to know what your girls are laying .very important for selective breeding ,love that shape and colour

I don’t know how many people use instagram here, but I created one to post pictures and promote my website when it becomes public (expected in a few days). This video of my marans got 22k views so far!

I personally don’t like this form of content too much (it seems to commercial and shallow to me, though I’m trying to make it educational) but it’s helpful to gain interest in my hatching eggs etc now eBay won’t allow them.

What do you plan to hatch?
Legbars and marans, the turkeys hatch their own stuff now. My dear husband won't let me put turkey eggs in the incubator now;)

I don’t have more than 2 big pens, so I just keep 2 breeds and rotate cock birds around as needed.

Hello,
I am a new member here but have been reading a lot of information over the last year. I have 7, 17 week old Black French Copper Maran Hens and 1 Cockerel.
I am hoping to hatch out some of their eggs, but understand this is difficult.
Last August (2025) i puchased some BFCM hatching eggs off ebay, this did not go well and none of them hatched, out of 12, at the same time i had great success with Buff Orpington and Rhode Island Red.

There are many different views, as far as i can work out the best results for Marans is the humidity to be 25-35% for the first 18 days and crank this upto 65% for the lockdown period. Is this correct? Sorry i know this has been gone over, just checking if there is any new information on this?
Many thanks!

I use broodies most of the time, so I’ll let the incubator hatchers answer this.
Pictures of your marans are more than welcome here. We can even evaluate them for you if you wanted.
