Hi guys! Hoping someone can help! I’m right in the middle of my first ever hatch (jumbo brown cots) and that’s going great.

But I went outside to collect my eggs for the night and all I could see was blood all around my pen. I’m talking feeder, waterer, even on the eggs. Upon closer inspection I have one hen who looked like she got her neck slit! Blood was all around her beak/neck and when I finally got her out of the pen, she freaked out and literally threw up blood everywhere.

I’ve got her quarantined inside, she is plump and seems to be getting around fine. I wrapped her in a towel and tried to clean the majority of blood off her neck, hoping it was just a freak situation and I could add her back to the flock tonight, but it happened again. Not quite as bad, and it was more brown than blood red this time. It seems like it’s coming from her nostrils and beak, and I have no clue what it could be or how to fix it.

Please send help, and I have pictures of her, just didn’t know if it was okay to post here since they’re a little graphic.

Do NOT put her back in with any other quail.

Can you take a few clear pictures of the injury?

It sounds pretty bad but it may not be.
Pictures please.

Once I got her in and cleaned, there’s no wound, it’s just from her nostrils and mouth.

Strange... could she have hit her head/face trying to flush/fly?
I'm a quail newbie so I'm gonna follow along.
They’re in a fairly short pen, so definitely possible. From what I’ve read though, those seem to be more of a back of the head injury. But I’ve only had these for about 3 months, and I’m hatching my first set now, so we’ll learn together!

I feel like I’ve scoured the internet for any type of “quail nosebleed” until I’ve drove myself crazy. I just feel so bad for the poor thing!

I know, I've got 80+ in my bators right now:fl, hopefully a good hatch for both of us. I've been building quail coops for 2 weeks it seems, and I still may not have room for them all!:barnie
My new pens are between 14&16 inches tall, I'm hoping that'll keep them from braining themselves! Cute little dumbies! Hopefully whatever your hens problem is/was will resolve itself without any I'll effects.

@007Sean
Do you have an idea of what could be going on here?
I almost tagged 007, but I was afraid people might get tired of me tagging them so much. :oops:
