I've had a rooster and a hen for a year now, and have noticed by roo will once or twice a day will extend his neck and open his mouth, but he's healthy, eats very well, is not lethargic and otherwise breathes fine, no wheezing, sneezing or coughing but should I worry he may have gapeworm?
They have a coop that's in an enclosed kennel on our ranch.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Mine do exactly the same thing as you have described even the girls also. As you say he is healthy and acting normal I would not be too worried. For me always think it's them having a good stretch just like we would.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

He sounds like he is fine - sometimes reading too much about health problems stirs an active imagination. I know I am always googling my symptoms but, I am making a very serious effort to stop

Welcome to BYC!

It sounds like normal chicken behavior to me, ours do it too and they are fine.

Thanks for joining us, it's nice to have you here!
