Thank you. I’m afraid the other 3 girls are now doing the same thing. They didn’t want to leave the coop & also don’t want to stand. Could this be coccidiosis even though there’s no signs of blood in their poop?I'm so sorry you lost your hen! If you want to send her body off for an autopsy, you can put her in the fridge, then send her over ice (don't freeze her body) in the mail. You can search this site for the link to find your closest state veterinary lab and they'll have mailing instructions.
If you feel up to it, you can do a home autopsy and take lots of pics and if there's something obvious members can point it out. But we can only tell you what we see, not test for anything.
Sounds like you did everything you could. So sorry you lost your hen!
Thank you, I appreciate the response. The other 3 Pullets are now not wanting to leave the coop or stand. Could this be coccidiosis?I'm so sorry.![]()
The first one was already buried by the time I found out it had passed yesterday. If any other ones pass I think a necropsy will definitely be necessary. There is a neighbor whose chicken comes to visit sometimes. Could this have been where they got sick from? I mention this only because the neighbor had an egg that looked similar to the pic I will include when it was cracked open. I found this pic on Reddit but it is exactly what it looked like & some people said riboflavin & others said it was pseudomonas bacteria? I don’t know much About that or if it’s a possibility. Any thoughts? I will have someone check the poop as I’m not there currently. Can you try to take or send the body of the one you lost in to your state vet today, or tomorrow morning? Keep it cold, but not frozen. That is the best way to know for sure what has caused this. What are the droppings looking like in the ones left? There doesn’t need to be blood in the poop, but most would be runny in coccidiosis. What is your feed like? Could there be some mold growing in the container? Any moisture can turn to mold overnight. Could they have eaten something poisonous? If you worry about coccidiosis, then get some Corid right away, and use 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder in each gallon of water. Urge them to drink,,and dip their beaks. Are they eating? Here is a list of state vets to contact for a necropsy/autopsy:
