I got 6 ex batts on Friday and they have been laying 6 eggs a day. Strangely, one of them doesn't seem to have laid though. After reading up on possible causes, I'm starting to get concerned that she may be eggbound. I have attached a picture of the chicken in question.
She does not sound like she's in pain, she is eating perfectly well and drinking. It's also odd that I'm still getting 6 eggs a day from only 5 chickens.

Any opinions and cures/treatments would be gratefully appreciated.

Best regards,

Seth

A friend of mine now thinks this may be an infection/cyst of some sort. Any opinions?

I wish I could give you some advise but haven't owned chickens very long. I have been watching this thread and feel for ya and her! I've worked in the medical field for years and would say I agree with your friend as far as it being an infection of some sort. I hope someone with more knowledge can give you some advice. That looks painful and I feel so bad about the battery chickens and what they go thru. I would get her on an antibiotic and add some vitamins to her water and hopefully she can come thru this.

Thanks for the reply, she's vitamined to the hilt!!!
It'll be a trip to the vets tomorrow, I think.
All 6 of them are so much happier now. They had their first foray into the whole garden today, it was great to see them with a bit more confidence.

You are doing a great thing! The whole battery cage operations literally make me sick! The sufferage is horrible. Please post when you find out whats wrong with her, I'd be interested.
Good luck!

I think i've ruled the eggbound theory out due to the fact that I'm still getting 6 eggs from 6 hens daily. Therefore, she will be popping to the vet (another 1st) tomorrow. One hell of a week for her....lots of firsts - first human, first daylight, first fresh air, first bit of space etc etc etc unfortunately, probably first finger up the bum tomorrow.

Cyst?

That would be my [uneducated] guess from looking at her.

Hopefully your vet can help you out. Sorry you and your girl are going through this! I hope she gets better.
