Here is a thread that I responded to recently:

When I am dealing with a mite infestation, I take my clothes off in garage and put them right into the washer on hot. Then I take a shower after chicken chores. Shoes stay in garage. Actually, I do all this every day (but I put clothes in plastic bag in garage until wash day). Can you tell that I have dealt with mites a lot??? LOL.
You can easily get rid of mites but it takes retreatment EVERY WEEK throwing out all bedding and nest box material, treating the coop and the birds every week until gone.
If it's lice, then the bugs will be lighter in color, I have read (I haven't dealt with lice).
Yes don't let those bugs in the house as they will bite humans trying to find the chickens. Your vacuum is your friend! Go vacuum right now...everything that isn't nailed down and get them gone!
I have had mites so bad in the coop that all I did was reach in and get the eggs, then not take a shower. I was itching and woke up 2 hrs later with a mite biting me. Those things got killed with one coop/chickens treatment, then I just retreated to get the hatching eggs. All is well!
Some people though have had problems with mites settling into their homes for awhile and thus you need to vacuum those things up right away.
