Help--Just noticing blood in droppings--4 and 5 week old chicks

I have 27 chicks--24 from the hatchery vaccinated for coccicidia and mareks, and 4 from the feed store--don't think they were vaccinated. I lost one of the hatchery chicks on day 3, but since then all have been doing well and growing. They are still in the brooder and I just noticed today some blood in droppings. I haven't been feeding medicated feed as the hatchery told me that it would nullify the vaccinations.

I know that the bloody droppings indicated coccidia but I am not sure who is dropping the poo. What should I do at this point? The last thing I need is to start losing chickens. I am just getting ready to move them to their coop. No one is acting ill at this point, and all are eating well.

Please help, any advice appreciated!

treat all with Corid.Corid kills all 9 strains of cocci while other meds only kill SOME strains. you should NEVER have bloody poop. that's a huge red flag. treat with corid as soon as possible. best wishes. good luck

Not always. It can be normal for a chicken to have a bloody poop now and then as they shed the lining. How old are they now and how long did the hatchery say the vaccine took to kick in? What are you feeding them?

Corid in this instance would cause much more harm than good. If they have already been vaccinated giving Corid can completely wipe out the benefits of this immunization. If somehow the vaccine didn't work the birds would need to be put on a course of Di-Methox or Sulmet. If they did in fact have a cocci infestation, it would need the heavy hitters.

The chicks are 4 1/2 weeks old, and the 2 RIR's are 5-6 weeks old. I am feeding a non medicated starter feed, and all are eating well. I am hoping that this is just shedding intestinal lining, but how do I know the difference? I will call the hatchery in the morning and ask about the cocci vaccination. Thanks for the info.......
