Hello! I recently got 6 chicks, ages 4-8 weeks and I had one that I noticed sleeping more than the others but never saw anything wrong with her and I never saw any bloody stools in the pen. The person I got the chicks from said I should give corid and electrolytes so I started all of the chicks on it and it’s been 4 days. That chick unfortunately passed but now I have another that started acting lethargic today. She’s usually running around with the others but today has been sitting by herself. She’s a bantam Amerucana and is 6-8 weeks old. Is there something else I should do for her or should I be giving her the corid directly in a dropper? I don’t see any bloody stools in the pen and she looks fine otherwise. She always has her neck in like the photo but she can stretch it out. She’s done that since I got her though.

Hi,

Sorry about your chicks. Did the electrolytes you give happen to have vitamins in them? When giving Corid, they can't have anything with extra Thiamine in it, so basically, all general, usual poultry vitamins are cut off while they're on it.

Otherwise, I'm assuming the new soil is how they would get cocciodosis at this age. You sure can give that one a bit of Corid direct, but I'd give it to all of them for the full 5-7 days it recommends. And they should have the 2 teaspoons per gallon strength of liquid, or 1.5 teaspoons of powdered.

Bloody stool doesn't happen always. We've had cocciodosis here twice. Once it looked like a bloody masacre, and the second time, zero blood. A lot of folks report never seeing bloody stools, yet their chicks had all the other symptoms, like yours.
