Help! Lethargic hen, not eating!

I am trying everything I can at this point. I am feeding them medicated chick starter, put Corrid in the water, doing the Tylan, and wormers. The worse one is eating a bit (moistened chick starter, canned cat food, apple sauce) and starting to poop (had quit). It is green but it is poop. The other one is eating pretty good and pooping more (I put them in the same cage and it seems like they may enjoy the company instead of being alone). So I am encouraged with these two (although the one isn't eating nearly enough). The worse one has passed a couple jelly bean size goo balls. Hard to describe. Solid but moist and rubbery. Maybe malformed eggs or lodged eggs, no shells. What about mixing up some Corrid and spraying the bare ground out in the chicken yard?
You might be overdosing them, too much is not good, has the opposite effect. You do not need to spray the ground, cocci can be spread by birds, bringing in new chickens into your flock, carrying it in on your hands/clothes/shoes/feed utensils, etc. There are 9 strains of cocci,so a outbreak/overload can happen at anytime. Most birds have some cocci in their small intestines, only becomes a problem if they have an overload, then we medicate to bring it back under control. Chickens build immunity to the strains they have been exposed to only.

Ya, I tend to do that (something is good, more is good) but I am desperate at this point. The rest in the main yard are doing okay. Didn't see anymore runny green poop. So you think with them, just the medicated chick starter at this point?

No,keep all chickens on the 5 day Corid medication, just to be on the safe side.

  • What did you worm with?
  • How much wormer did you use?
  • How much does the sick hen weigh?
  • Did you give the wormer orally or in the water?
  • Do you have the Corid powder or liquid?
  • How much Corid are you using per gallon?
  • Do you have Tylan 50, Tylan 200 or the powder?
  • How much did you give?
  • How did you give it?

I just want to thank all of you for your posts, and sorry to hear of the loss of some of your chickens. My family and I are new to chickens, and never realized that they could get cocci. It was really helpful in answering my questions about their running poop, thought we were giving them too much watermelon. Will make a visit to the feed store tomorrow. Wish all your girls/boys well.
