HELP! Limping baby Chick! Slipped Tendon, broken? HELP- Video provided

Bless your heart! People think I'm crazy dedicating so much time, but I just have to. I bandaged its leg straight from the hip down today. It's using its leg and actively eating from a dropper tonight think the tendon is staying in this way since the constant chirping has stopped :)

I'm going to be watching this thread studiously. I have a chick that is doing exactly the same thing with one leg that your chick was doing. She is a hatchery chick and is eating and drinking when offered food and water but I haven't put them in her kennel because she has such a hard time getting around.

We have her in a "hospital room" in our living room. I started yesterday trying to do "physical therapy" with her. If I put her on a table a little way from me and call her she will balance herself and run-fly to me but runs out of gas then and needs to rest. Now that I think of it the hock (joint next up from the foot?) does seem warm so I think I will try the baby aspirin thing and see if I can get it splinted before I try any more PT.

I have to save her now (even tho my DD keeps telling me to put her down) cause she sits on my shoulder and watches NCIS with me!

I will take one in the morning for you! At first I wasn't sure it was the tendon, but once the swelling went down a bit, I could clearly see it to the side. I could easily snap it back in place then. Good luck! Don't loose hope. I'm still cautiously optimistic.

Any chick that will sit and watch NCIS is worth helping

! Skylarms...so glad you are getting some positive results! I read on here when I was dealing with a chick with a slipped tendon that sometimes you can take the ends of q-tips and cut them off, place them on either side of the tendon that is in place to create a "channel" for the tendon to stay in so it does not have a place to "slip" to. I was not able to do it in my case as I was dealing with a silkie and those chicks are itty bitty. But, it is another idea. I was able to manipulate it in place, wrap with vet wrap, and after about it week it stayed. I did re-wrap every couple of days as they grow so fast I didn't want the blood flow to get slowed down ... or worse! I am keeping an eye on you guys' progress!

Thanks! That is a GREAT idea! My biggest issue now is keeping it eating, It will only east mash when placed right in front of it..... Its skinny :( Its trying so Im trying!!!

Amen to that!

Thanks for the q-tip idea. I was already wondering what I was going to use for a splint anyway and the channel is a really good idea. It's nice to know others have successfully dealt with this before.

Update! The little chicks leg was much improved. Unfortunately my four year old was trying to watch me resplint its leg. The chick is in a small room off the garage that I use to store canned good. Long story short, my son accidentally pushed a can of beans off the shelf and it landed right on the little guy. Killed him instantly. Tragic, strange turn of events and I am very sad about it. Lets keep this thread alive and make it the most informative we can!! What I was doing was working when others said it wouldnt.

Thanks for the update. Sorry for the loss. Stuff happens, especially when you are tiny.

I agree, this thread should keep going and be a help for those with this problem. I couldn't believe my luck when I found it.
