HELP! Limping baby Chick! Slipped Tendon, broken? HELP- Video provided

Update! The little chicks leg was much improved. Unfortunately my four year old was trying to watch me resplint its leg. The chick is in a small room off the garage that I use to store canned good. Long story short, my son accidentally pushed a can of beans off the shelf and it landed right on the little guy. Killed him instantly. Tragic, strange turn of events and I am very sad about it. Lets keep this thread alive and make it the most informative we can!! What I was doing was working when others said it wouldnt.

So sorry to hear! Stuff happens! I hope your son is ok! That could be tramatic for sure! :hugs

Thanks. He didn't realize what happened. Poor little chick..... Felt so bad. I've learned a lot from that little chick. We buried him. We usually don't bury chicks....

I just had a little guy hatch last night and this morning when I put him in the brooder I noticed he couldn't wan and his foot was drawn and curled. I thought that was the problem then went to splint his foot and in the process saw his hock (the joint above his foot joint, like his knee) was red and really swollen. Is this a pulled or torn tendon? Or a malform? I have no idea what to do with him so for now he is resting under the lamp

Ok, the curled toes is one thing, the pulled 'knee' is another. Make a boot by cutting off the sticky ends of band-aids... splay out the foot like it is supposed to be and place one layer of sticky on the bottom and one on the top. Make sure sticky attaches between the toes for sure.
Now for the 'knee' area. Separate from all others. Make sure to keep warm, and small small containers of food and water.. so they wont drown in a water bowl etc.
I've read that you should wait until the knee area swelling has gone down before you can set this tendon straight again then use cut off q-tips and non stick tape or tiny band-aid to make like a splint. It should help.

I would treat for slipped tendon. gently pull leg back like it would do when stretching. If the tendon is slipped you will feel it on the inside of the knee and will be able to roll it back into place. Hold it there while wrapping vet wrap aroung the leg. That part is hard as they are so little! An extra set of hands is helpful! You can then splint it like pic above. also, start it on poly vi sol baby vitamins without iron! That can aid in resolving leg issues. 3 or 4 drops by beak 3x a day. Realize you will be wearing most of the vitamins before you are done

Electrolites in the water is helpful as well. Good luck!
