Hi, I'm very new to this website but I saw that there are many knowledgeable people on here so I beg for assistance!
.
Its day 28 for my remaining eggs (2 have had an assisted hatch on day 25 or 26) so after doing a water test (they all sank to the bottom with no float) I decided to peak inside one of them. I made a small hole in the air cell and saw the membrane. A tiny piece of shell fell on it and I saw some blood..after adding water to the membrane lightly I saw movement in the egg!
.
Luckily, I stopped the minor bleeding with a wet q-tip asap. I'm worried though for the chick! The membrane was opaque white and appeared like it was shrink wrapped in the membran...it loosened up a little bit after applying lightly warmed water to it.
.
.
.
What do I do now? Do I waitfie the egg to IP or should I help it once the blood is absorbed?? I'm really concerned!

When we help chicks we often have a little blood. We open the egg, it bleeds a little, so we wait for 30 minutes or so until it absorbs the blood. Late chicks may have been kept at cool temperatures for a few hours or over a long period of time, and so they may just not be ready to hatch.

Once the blood is absorbed it is wise to use a needle to very carefully (don't stab the chick) pick a ring around where the chick would pip, so that it can get out easier. Don't tear the membrane if you can help it, but this gives the chick a chance to escape on its own timing, when its absorbed its yolk sac. This also helps it breath.

I really hope everything works out. Best of luck! Feel free to ask any more questions!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Here is an excellent article on assisting chicks ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching

Lots of great info in the article on how and when to help. I too agree with Gutabooks that your temps have probably been on the low side with the eggs been so late. Have you opened the incubator a lot after lockdown? This can cause chicks to become shrink wrapped, I say can as this may or may not have happened.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on :fl
