While my wife was cooking breakfast this morning she broke open an egg to fry and there was a long worm inside.

Now my question is how did it get there, how do I get ride of them and what is the best way to prevent this from happening again?
I don't want this to happen to any of my customers for sure!

Was probably just the chalazae (sp?). That's the stringy looking thing that holds the yolk in place. Perfectly normal.

It was a worm for sure. I took in out and examined it myself. About 2" long and about the same size round has a pencil lead and wiggling in my hand.

Is it an isolated incident?

Honestly, I never give an egg away. Murphy's Law. I just bet the first egg I give away is the first time we discover a worm. Now you've done it, my paranoia is complete

Just to help get over the "ick" factor, I recommend this:

turn it on while housekeeping or doing dishes, or driving. It's pretty funny, and also a little bit beautiful. Enjoy!

valbazen is a great wormer. Kills all kinds of worms. Other wormers do not kill all the different kinds like cecal etc. I would give my large fowl 1/2 cc and my small 1/4 cc and repeat in two weeks. There is an egg delay but if you have that bad a problem , It may be the life of your flock you should worry about. It is a lig. Use a small syringe without a needle on it. Give it by mouth. They did better than I thought they would. Also it easier on their system than wazine. Gloria Jean

That was a roundworm you saw. It definitely happens.

You need to treat your flock for roundworms.

Here see my thread...I have been obsessing about this very subject.

There are many threads on roundworms on BYC and you can use the search bar for them if you wish.
