Help! Loud chicks!

My Wyandottes were a bit noisy as chicks, and they seem flightier and fussier than the barred rocks of the same age. When they were about 3 weeks, I started giving them offerings from half mulched leaves. They seemed to love kicking the dirt about and finding anything new and interesting to sample. But one was never noisier than the others. They also needed more space at that time, so make sure your chicks have somewhere to get exercise. Unless the noisy one becomes listless or stops eating, I don't think you need to worry overly much, it's probably just boredom, or she's not happy with her place in the pecking order but hasn't sorted it out yet.

Hi all-
I have 5 Golden Laced Wyondottes, about 2.5-3 weeks old. I'm new into the chicken world, so I don't know if the chirping is bad or not. I have them in a brooder with a hay, heat lamp, food, water, and perching stuff. I don't think they have been all that loud at all, but I just noticed yesterday them being louder. I think there is one that is louder than all the others, and she's chirping almost consistantly. It doesnt necessarily seem like a distressful cry, but like I said, it seems almost constant. Its also really hard to tell which one/ones are chirping!! But they all seem pretty active, explore a lot, attack eachother for peking order stuff, they all eat and drink. I've been making them electrolyte water for the past day or so (sugar/salt/baking soda) and they all love it. They quiet down when theyre sleeping and stuff, I'm just worried somethign is wrong. I picked up the one who I think is the one who chirps the most and she seems fine. No scrapes I can see or anything. Although, I dont know exactly waht to look for. She had pasty butt last week but has since made a great recovery. It may be worth noting that she also runs away super fast everytime I reach my hand in brooder, the other ones don't mind that much. They live in my studio apartment with me so I can hear them everywhere I go in my home, so I'm constantly worried and over-thinking. Am I over-worrying? Or could there be something wrong? Please give me some insight if you can!!
Your Wyandotte girls are probably fine. The time to get worried is when they become quiet or lethargic. I love Wyandotte’s personalities. Mine were gentle and friendly. I now have four Rhode Island Red pullers. They, as well have even temperaments. As long as they are eating and drinking you’re good.

Any suggestions on how to make one side cooler? I can’t figure out how to do that, I don’t know where I’d find a bin or something bigger than the one I already have. It’s one general temp. Maybe one side is about one degree cooler. .
Are you using one of the round heat lamps? If so, put it over one end of the tote, and actually point it at that end. That should make the other end 10 degrees cooler. Also, I would raise the light up a bit. I think they would be okay if it were 75 degrees in the warmest spot now. I'm coming late to the conversation, but it sounds like they are too hot. If they were too cool they would be huddling.

Thanks for the input. Yeah its been about a week and they all look like they are thirving!! I'm so thankful! Their little personalities are the cutest!

Does the bottom come off the cage or maybe set it on the side so they have access to dirt and grass?
I'm a firm advocate of letting the kids actually get dirty. :)

Yes actually the bottom does come off so they are digging happy little holes and laying in them. It's adorable!

Every time I get new chicks I put them outside earlier! They are tougher than you think. They love outside!

I'll remember this for next time I have chicks! Seeing how much they love it I regret waiting so long to put them out there! They get about 1-2 hours/day outside (supervised). Their new coop was just delievered today, so they will be outside for-good in no time.
