With much irony, I've just signed up for College Algebra - haven't taken Algebra since 8th grade, decades ago...and I recall metrics being easy then...

I'm trying to figure out medicine dosages - I need to make a gallon of Duramycin (tetracycline hydrochloride), which the package says requires 400 mg of the medicine.

Also, if I use this, when can we start eating their eggs again?

Thanks!

How many mg per pill? And does it say you need 400mg per gallon, per dose?? I know dosages from year of vet tech work.....and ironically I teach some college algebra in chemistry...

On the other hand...and have NO IDEA how long to hold off on eggs. Youll have to wait for the experts on that one!

Thanks - the meds came in a packet of soluble powder.

We're not sure what she has - possibly MG, CRD or Infectious Synovitis. First two are 400-800mg per gallon, latter is 200-400 mg/gallon. I figured 400 was safe in either direction.

College chem? Wow!

So does it say to give her 400mg per gallon or per dose? Oh, wait, you answered that!

400mg seems like the safer dosage. Is the full packahe 400mg.

Ok, so I'm having trouble converting 400mg in US measurements (aka - I know it's 0.014 109 584 78 ounce). So, what is 0.014 109 584 78 ounce? A quarter teaspoon?

I have a scale for changing grams into Lbs - just way too big to be calibrated for such a tiny amount.

So, 0.008 of a teaspoon!!! HA! (3tsp in .5oz.) (so .01414oz is .008 tsp)

.400g (400mg) is basically a pint of the goods. You should be safe since the dosages raneg from 200mg to 800mg. If it is an antibiotic is should be pretty safe.

Still not sure about how long to lay off the egg eating. I would think 2 weeks AFTER the AB's stop.

Good luck.

If you have a gram scale, I believe that a milligram is one thousandth of a gram. So you would need to measure out .4 grams. I would wait at least two weeks before eating the eggs.

How on earth do I measure .008 teaspoon?

(So sorry I don't know the local drug dealers!)

Just saw your post, Panner123. Looks like a I need a better gram scale.

Two weeks are fine for the wait - neither hen is laying now anyway.

Thank you!
