Help me choose breeds to raise in WI

Quote:
I am thinking about going down to the Wisconsin International Poultry Show in Portage, WI with some Welsummer Bantams. I am going to be increasing my flock of welsummers from 8 hens to 16 hens, possibly 24/25 hens, I usually have 2 roos with 8 hens...

Just a note... we will be looking for some babies in the spring for our backyard coop. If you are going to be hatching chicks to potentially sell.. keep me in mind! We are in New Glarus, 20 miles south of Madison.

How about Silkies, and Bantam Cochins? Both are sweet, friendly, broody, and docile birds!

What about Bantam Sultans? Nobody has those anymore?

SQ means Show Quality - which is what you'd want to get if you were looking to be more of a hobby breeder, rather than a hobby hatchery. The sort of birds people are willing to pay to have shipped to them all over the country - so you don't have to worry about local demand.

The Wisconsin International Poultry Club Show in Portage is a great place to pick up a few nice pairs of birds! I'm planning on being there myself (might even enter a few of my Cochins, and bring along some Runner ducks for sale if I don't get rid of them by then) - I can't believe I didn't think of that when you were asking on the Cheeseheads thread!

If you email me, I can put you on my email newsletter list that goes out BCC(blind Carbon Copy), when I start having chicks available, and periodically throught the summer when started birds are available.
