Help me dog people! Dog psychologist needed!

It is sometimes hard to resolve the "predator Boo" and the "sweet baby Boo". Lol. I guess all cats are that way, efficient killers and cuddlie too.

Boo is pretty self sufficient. She kills squirrels, moles, and rabbits for her meals. She rarely eats her cat food anymore. She spends most nights outside.
On the other hand, She will playfully, swat my roosters tail, never bother a chick, and rub against the dogs and purr. She will sit in my lap, any chance she gets.

In my opinion, God made a good decision, when he made the domestic cat smaller than most dogs. I'd hate to run into a 50 lb, hungry or angry cat. 🤣
:lau I agree! I couldn't imagine the damage caused by one if they were any larger.
I have always loved cats but more so the outdoor pet cat than an indoor one, for that very reason! Ours was outside and she hunted rats and mice - unlike many of the neighborhood cats.
They're so independent at times, I think that's how it should be.

My sisters cat is an indoor cat but I'm pretty sure she thinks she's a guard cat because she only attacks me if no ones home 😩 I wish I could have another cat but DH is allergic.

It must be nice that Boo leaves the chickens alone. Was she ever curious or just adapted?

Boo was another kitten that just showed up at around 5 to 6 weeks of age. Our dogs found her in the chicken yard. Dexter, literally, had her in his mouth. My husband yelled "drop it!" So she was a rescue for sure. Lol. She was so tiny that the chickens just overwhelmed her. She often sleeps in their nest boxes.
Our neighbors are just here on occasional weekends. They dropped off a ton of cats several years ago, along with a deer feeder loaded with cat food. I think the stray kittens have come from there. None of those strays have ever bothered the chickens. I do see grown cats around occasionally, but they are feral and do not welcome human contact.

Its unfortunate that people dump their animals... Only to be someone else's burden. Those poor kittens!

That's a cute story and thankfully Dexter didnt eat her!

Here is a photo of Boo Cat, ridiculous name, I know, she showed up on October 17th of 2019. My deceased mom's birthday; I should have named her Mildred or Milly, but Boo was easy for the little grandsons who had just started talking.

She was a housecat for the first few months. She got stuck in a tall tree the 1st outing and spent the night there. Next day, I solicited help. A few weeks later, I came home to find she had escaped to the outdoors; she was stuck in a very skinny, tall pine. My husband cut it down, so that it fell onto another tree. Somewhere along the way, she learned to climb down. Lol.

Is she in the nesting box?

Sometimes the easy names are the best especially with the kids can say it! I had my boys name most of the chickens.
What a coincidence that she shows up on your moms birthdate s your mom sent you a birthday present :p
Boo Cat was destined to be outside among the trees  she's adorable :love

Any idea why? I wonder if they thought the cats would solve or prevent a rodent problem of some sort? That doesn't sound like the usual "get rid of cats" style of dumping, since they provided the feeder and food. 🤔

I don't think they had bad intentions. They mentioned the deer feeder to my husband and told him they were barn cats.
The cat population has grown, but we've never worry much about rodents and they don't bother the chickens. I've fed several of them when they were pregnant but they won't let me get near them.
Of course, if a lone kitten shows up, I feel obligated to care for it and have it spayed or neutered.

Thank you!
Boo spent the whole night inside. She slept right beside me, which is very unusual. When she does sleep inside, she generally, sleeps on the top level of her cat tree. She used the litter box, also unusual, and didn't cover her waste, which has never happened!!
I think she may be claiming her territory and I'm included in the territory. I'm sure she will eventually accept June as part of the household.
June has adapted quickly to being a people cat. She loves the attention, loves toys, and especially her food.

A new kitten is in the house and Boo Cat has some rules to lay down. Hopefully she'll accept June sooner than later. June could eventually be a good playmate for her!
That's such good news about June! About how old do you think she is?
