help me experiment with sexing

Quote:
i have two of the same breed and one does stand taller then the other the other one seemed to hunker down more, interesting. the other thing is my chicks are 4-5 weeks old thye both have combs but one has it more obvious then the other one does. do i have a boy and a girl? i am so scsred if i do cause then one has to go but they need each other so much!

I use my psychic abilities to determine the sex. I am right about 50% of the time.

Actually with my JG's I I have noticed that the ones that grew the fastest and started growing feathers the fastest within the first few days are now looking like pullets. The slower growing and slower feathering ones are now sporting little pink combs.

I read earlier on here that if you hold them up by the scruff of their necks the roos will try and pull their legs up and the pullets will let them dangle, but I also read you had to do it during their first week. I don't think it worked to well. According to that I should only have 2 roos out of 8 from a straight-run and 4 pullets and one of the roos was one of my pullets. A lot more act like roos now, just more aggressive. (Big Red, my rooster I already have was suppose to be a pullet though). Are some hens aggressive?

On my RIRs, I noticed that the combs of the females tend to be thinner and iffy-er. My male's comb, while the same height, is thicker and more pronounced. I saw this from about the middle of the 2nd week. Also, his legs are thicker than the females and he's way behind in his feathering out.

ok i just read that you can sex eggs! b4 they hatch eggs that are very pointed are roos, and more rounded tops are hen, they say it's 90% accurate.

I tried this wing sexing thingy on my bantams. I always thought to have three pullets and a cockerel. and after checking them out i think i am right. I suspected my one d'uccle to be a male and according to feather seing he is. He was the last to get his tail feathers but alread has huge feathers on his feet and hocks(?)

Since I put the chicks in the larger corral in the coop, the two I think are roos of my EE chicks both stand tall and look eye-to-eye and peck at each others beaks in a sort of play fight. They also land on the back of the other ones. The just sort of hurl themselves thru the air (you can't really call it flying yet!!

) and plop on top of another chick. Once in a while they miss and really make me laugh!!!

ok my results so far out of 45 (assuming I did these right): by feather sexing, they are all hens. By hanging them by their feet, 1 black silkie is a roo. by the string, 1 serama, 1 black silkie(same from hanging by feet), 1 millie, 1 blue cochen. by hang from scruf, 2 seramas(1 is the same one from the string), 1 millie, 1 gray silkie and 1 Ameraucana. Keep um coming and keep trying them.
