Help me find dog breeds

Aren’t german shepherds Alsatians? At least they are about the same size I think. What is your experience with with german shepherds? Did you get yours from a breeder? German Shepherds all was look very friendly to me :lau
thank you:)
Yeah they are the same (I guess I kind of missed that in your original post).
We have had two GSDs, both registered as pure bred but not from a specific breeder as we were not about to pay the triple or more price tag that comes with an official breeder.
Our first was an outside only dog and she did wonderfully, we would bring her in on only the coldest days (well below 0°) and she would HATE it and beg to be let back out. She would always sit right on the front porch. One day when my youngest was a toddler he got ahold of the phone and accidentally called 911 and hung up. Well they called the house back and said they had to send an officer out to the house to check as was their policy so of course I was like sure no problem. About ten minutes later I get another call from them and the person on the line was like, “ma’am, could you please get your dog and let the officer into the house.” 😆 I totally didn’t even think anything of her being out there but the officer would not get out of his car because she was sitting on the porch. She wasn’t even barking at him, just sitting there wagging her tail and he was nervous.
Our current GSD is also a wonderful dog, and the most gentle creature! I have seen her pick up the most delicate piece of ice and carry it across the yard without breaking it, I have seen her “adopt” a ”pet” spider that she found in the house and play with it by picking it up and putting it between her paws, when it went to run away she would just pick it up again and put it back between her paws. She is also obsessed with babies and loves everything to do with them-once they can walk on their own they are much less interesting to her, but babies: oh man those are the best.
Honestly the only down side I can think of for GSDs is the hair, they shed A LOT.

I don’t want a livestock guard dog I want a people guard dog. I will look in to corgis and shelties.
thank you :)
If you bond them you guys and/or the property instead of livestock, they will guard it. Very protective. We had a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix and he was amazing. And very protective of the house, car, property, etc. and especially us. Anatolian Shepherd could work too. Shelties and Corgis might alert you someone is there but I don’t think they would attack. Most dogs wouldn’t though, actually. Even in the typical “guardian” breeds. They would need to be trained. Maybe a professionally trained personal protection dog or outside guard dog? There’s a lot of places that do train those. Maybe a Malinois?

I don’t want it to the extent of the professional trained ones I just don’t want one who will only look scary and bark. I want one who will bite if a strange try’s to smack it or something like that, I definitely don’t want a dog who is outgoing and friendly to strangers, polite when I want it to be but not more then that.
I will look at Malinois thank you!

But most will not bite without training though and it’s a huge liability to have one that just bites willy nilly. Not to mention a lot of the ones that DO randomly bite are often just insecure which you don’t want. Far better to have it trained.
