Help me find excuse! LOL...

My excuse?
Easy.
- I wanted 6 more chicks
- I got 6 day-olds
- One didn't make it through the night
- Went to the feed store to replace it
- What if another one died?
- So I got 2 to replace the 1 that died

6 chicks-1=5
5+2=6 if another one dies

So I have 6, with 1 in reserve.

Oh! Oh! I know! Tell him that you are really going green and you need MORE Chickens so that you can have more organic fertilizer and your won't contribute to global warming by having to buy fertilizer that runs off into our bays and rivers.....yehhhhh, thats the ticket....

funny, ur situation is a lot like mine. we only have room for 4 hens (plus, i'm illegal). however, they DO have an extra 84 square ft. moveable run...and they spend almost all day in there....so really i have room for more....but, i chose 4 hens anyway to satisfy hubby. BUT.....i had some silkie eggs in the bator that i was gonna give away once they hatched....BUT only ONE lil' gal hatched!!! and i know it's a girl cuz i had her eggshell DNA tested. ANYWAY, i couldn't just give away ONE lil' chicken! she would be devastated! AND...silkies are small....so...now we have 5 pullets!

That would be "Sweet Pea"... right? I'm dying to have mine hatch... and see what we have. I have Bantam Polish Frizzles in the bator... on day 15...

Here's the excuse I would use:
At least one of the original 6 is bound to be a rooster. That leaves only 5 hens (maybe less). A rooster will wear out so few hens very quickly and needs at least 2 more to keep him busy without wearing all the feathers off of them.

My husband never counts how many chickens we have. He don't care how many chickens we get as long as I don't bring home another dog or bring home ducks and geese. We use to have 1 momma dog and her 6 puppies which I wanted to keep them all and 2 pigmy goats, over 30 something ducks, 24 geese and over 300 chickens.

It was a sad day when I had to depart from all of them (we bought a house and in the area we lived in we couldn't have the farm critters and my husband made me part with the puppies.

We have since moved back to our previous address and now we have 24 chicks (new hampshire reds & americaunas) not to mention the 106 that should arrive next weekend.

You don't need one. Just get a couple, and once he sees how cute and fuzzy they are- you'll be all set! I ordered chicks online back in March.. my fiance called me crazy.. I did it anyways. Now every once in a while I hear him say "HOW DID YOU GET ME OBSESSED WITH CHICKENS?"

He's even made his own name on here and everything. lol. I think he's more into chickens than I am sometimes!
