Hi, I apologize this doesn’t exactly fit the forum but I wasn’t sure where to post. I’m trying to figure out where I can send my chicken for necropsy. I live in Richmond, VA. Can someone also talk me through the process for how I get this done? Thank you.

I see there's a few:

Harrisonburg Regional Laboratory
261 Mount Clinton Pike
Harrisonburg, VA 22802 US
540-209-9120
fax: 540-432-1357

Ivor Regional Laboratory
34591 General Mahone Blvd
Ivor, VA 23866 US
757-859-6221
fax: 757-859-6428

Lynchburg Regional Laboratory
4832 Tyreeanna Road
Lynchburg, VA 24504 US
804-947-2518
fax: 804-947-2577

Warrenton Regional Laboratory
272 Academy Hill Road
Warrenton, VA 22186 US
540-347-6385
fax: 540-347-6404

Wytheville Regional Laboratory
250 Cassell Road
Wytheville, VA 24382 US
276-228-5501
fax: 276-223-0384

I would call and ask about the procedure. You'll want to keep your bird in the refrigerator, not the freezer.

You'll also want to make sure you're clear on if there are different types of necropsy.

While I haven't done necropsy, I did have my local lab do a fecal test (for worms). I went with the more expensive test because I assumed it would be more comprehensive. Nope! It was more expensive because they were testing for one specific thing. My vet later confirmed that the cheaper test was actually the one I wanted. The names on the forms were not helpful (it was like "Fecal Test A" "Fecal Test B" and some science terms I was not familiar with)., and I should have asked.

So if you have a specific thing you're wanting in the results, you might need to ask them if there is a specific option you need to pick.
