Red sex links are production reds

Red Sex Links are not Production Reds. Red Sex Links are a Rooster with the gene gene factor x a hen with the silver gene factor and can be sexed at hatching. In Production Reds both parents have the red gene factor and the chicks cannot be sexed at hatching. There is an good article explaining the differences between Sex Links and Production Reds at http://www.purelypoultry.com/blog/w...tween-production-reds-and-sex-linked-hybrids/

Sorry, I meant to type red gene factor, not gene gene factor.

Another correction (I must have stayed up too late last night). :o( I should have said, "can be sexed by color at hatching" and vise versa. All chicks can be sexed at hatching (either by vent sexing or wing sexing). :o)

Agreed, RSL and Production Red are not the same thing. It's easy to tell the two hybrids apart just by looking; RSL will have white in the tail and flight feathers, Production Reds will have black in the tail feathers.

Unfortunately, Production Reds are often sold as Rhode Island Reds. Ticks me off; it's just like the hatcheries that sell EEs as Ameraucana/Araucanas.

I totally agree. It's dishonest advertisement, but it happens a lot.
