There would be a lot fewer unwanted babies in the world if people were really free to decide what they wanted out of life before they conceived. I wish teens could just buy a chewing gum or Coke to prevent pregnancy til they sorted it out. In the third world, maybe water supplies that were labeled, you will, or you won't, I don't know....

Would not deal with AIDS, but that is another issue.

I breast fed mine, told everyone it was out of laziness, I never had to get out of bed at 2 am to warm a bottle, just roll over and let the baby do all the work.

Boiling the nipples, now.... ouch! (JK)
Strangly enough, I have two very healthy kiddos. No ear issues, very few colds, seems a fair trade for sore, bleeding nipples and a ravenous appetite. Oh yeah, another perk, talk about losing the baby weight fast. Those babies nurse the extra weight right off of you.

I know why some people can't/don't but for me - it was the only option.

Suck it up? Good lord woman, it's a pillow to help position a baby for nursing after having your abdomen cut open. In other words it's for nursing.

Bad things can happen in hospitals, but sometimes it is the best place to be. My baby who turns one in a couple of weeks was 2 months premature, and spent some time in the NICU. I am very grateful for hospitals!! He is doing great now, he is a big boy, very healthy. If not for the hospital who knows how great he would be doing!

My MIL and SIL actually tried to talk me out of breastfeeding my youngest. They'd talk to him in babytalk and say, "You are sucking the life out of your mommy. You want a real baba?" And then they'd slip him a bottle when I wasn't looking.

I have nothing against supplemental bottles, but they were totally undermining his ability to fill up, which in turn affected MY ability to not have sore tatas.

Neither of them nursed their kids, and they thought I was some kind of a hippy or something for nursing mine. Fortunately, they live far enough away that they didn't have to witness me feeding him out in public.
