Guys I need all of your advice.
My Parents want to Put my dog sunny down (Shes 13) Because shes And i quote"Old and suffering". But shes Not. She Still Enjoys life. She doesnt limp (maybe once a day or after alot of good exercise). She still follows me around the yard and is wicked good with the kids and chickens. She has some arthritis in her but she still gets the best out of them. Shes extremely Healthy For her age.

I will pray that you and your parents will come to an understanding. If she is still getting around and not really suffering I don't really know why they would do that. But just remember in their hearts they believe what they are doing is the right thing. She is a very pretty dog.

As long and she is walking, eating, drinking and pooping on her own, she deserves to continue in my opinion. I have a 13 year old doberman and she shows signs of aging too but no where near time for me to think euthanasia. I hope things go well for you and her.

Mark,
If she is getting around and not in pain/suffering there is no reason to put her down. When they get older they may need special care, we had a lab/border collie mix that lived to be 19, she had cateracts and had trouble seeing to the point of she would get lost outside so we had to keep a close eye on her. If you are willing to go the extra mile and do what it takes to care for her I don't see how your parents would have a problem. Now to be blunt and please don't take this the wrong way but if they have to care for her then that might explain their reason for wanting to put her down. My heart goes out to you and I hope you can spend as much time with your friend as you can. They aren't just pets or dogs they are friends and part of the family.

I agree. I believe that a long as they are not suffering (not eating, not drinking, crying, or being excessively inactive because they don't feel good/hurt) they should be allowed to "go" in their own time. I don't think euthanasia showed be used just because they are old. If she is truly suffering she is not likely to be playful and probably won't eat. If she is not truly suffering, I think it is unkind to end their lives prematurely.

You parents apparently believe she is suffering, but perhaps they should look into it a bit more to determine if she is truly suffering. I don't know how recent the pic is, but she doesn't look to be in a bad way there

Thanks Everyone, Yes I want to get the vet involved, mostly because i know he would agree with me. I think she has cataracts but thats truelly it.
And I am the Primary Caretaker, i feed, water, keep her area clean, pick up dog poop, and exercise her. All My Parents do is pick up the food. Is that too much to ask?

Is caring for your dog a burden on your family financially? Perhaps your parents are trying to figure out how to solve a financial crisis... Not sure, though, and it certainly wouldn't be a good solution, but sometimes desperate people make illogical decisions.

Yeah That makes sense, but they said they wanted to do it at the end of school, thats two months away! So I think theyd want to do it right away if it was money.

just tell them you will remember this when they are "old and suffering"..lol...but not really kidding,if the dog isnt suffering there is no reason to euthanize her.
