My MIL has EE's and BA's...the BA's all have no combs left, though.

Her roo looks like a crested chameleon! LOL The comb actually looks pretty cool now. But I want something that I don't have to run down & Vaseline during the winter...they will be confined to a coop & run because there's not much to eat with 4+ feet of snow!

I love my bantam Wyandottes, too! I just almost shy away from the idea of having two of the same breed, LOL Although I do have Spangled Russian Orloffs in both bantam and large fowl...but they are so rare and I really like them...so I made an exception...

Another reason I suggest RI rose combs is that there are two suppliers of day old good quality wyandotte chicks- pauls poultry and the foleys.

This would be more of a market niche.

I had Lights for a few years. They were very hardy, very friendly and laid well. However, they were HUGE! They grew very slowly and ate A LOT in the winter...all things I'd like to avoid...I need something that grows fast and doesn't get giant-sized (don't need as much space and don't eat as much)...

I also had black/blue/splash Orps but wasn't as keen on their personalities--rooster was sweet but hens were dramatic and after I'd clean their coop/run I wouldn't get eggs for a few days because they'd be so stressed out! LOL

I'm on Foley's waiting list for a pair of BLRW's already...so if I get a chance to get a pair before next spring, that will be my breed...but if not, I might be leaning towards the Buckeyes...I have to have something that will sell easily (the pullets that is) so I can make some money back.

The Chants I tried before were IDEAL stock...

I'll have to see if I can find any more information on them....I am trying Rosecomb White Dorkings, too...but I've been having a heck of time hatching their eggs which makes me nervous...I spent over $60 on three batches and so far I have only gotten two culls (one wrong color with four toes) and the other with a single comb from all of those hatches...

I've heard some mixed things about the Leghorn's temperament (flighty, aggressive roos)....but I'd just eat them if it became an issue. LOL

First you would have to catch them.... heehee

I have leghorns in Silver and in Red. I love them. I also love my Silver Pencilled Wyandottes. All are beautiful birds.
