Hello,
I posted in raising chicks but not getting much response yet so....
I have a chick born with spraddle leg, I am fixing with the bandaid and also toes are curled, I am fixing with soles made of duct tape. I think she would get better but.....
She is also very tired, wants to sleep all the time, often even when I pick her up. If she is eating (yoke and water, encouraged by me) her eyes are closed. She seems to gag a bit on food and water, only a few times able to throw her head back to swallow. And her belly is bloated a bit. And though the bandaid is working, she still looses balance, falls and doesnt get up. She is 2.5 days old. No pasty butt, but vent is completely clear, I am not certain that she ever made a bowel movement.
Getting close to culling, thought I would post this first.

Chick sounds dehydrated and is very tired from adjusting to the energy needed to walk. Concentrate on getting water and/or electrolytes/vitamins (no added iron) in by dropper if necessary, dripping at very tip of beak to stimulate sipping reflex. Keep water away from little nostrils (nares).

I just gave her water from a plastic spoon. She took about 3 drinks and on the third started opening her beak, making gagging motions, kind of convulsed and I thought she was drowning. The water was no where near the nostrils. I thought she was going to die but she didn't.

Drop the liquids along the side of the beak, not at the front, and tip her a little. She needs to maneuver them down the right tube herself. Too easy to aspirate otherwise.

I wish you well, but I must agree, this does not sound good.

I went away tonight (after giving her fluids) and I gave some more plain water and she took 2 big drinks on her own, probably half a teaspoon, I could actually see the water volume go down in the spoon! There must be some reason she is clinging this long. I am going to try vitamins or yoke or something.

I tried vitamins, antibiotics (in drinking water), egg yoke, wet food and yogurt. Little Willy never really did improve, and it seemed so difficult for him to swallow. So this morning, for the first time ever, I culled a bird. I used the baking soda and vinegar method. I think he just went to sleep. He enjoyed sleeping.
