Hi, y'all.

My wife and I acquired a pair of peafowl back in January. We were told at that time that they were about a year old, but the lady we bought them from had no idea whether they were males or females. I'm hoping that somebody here can help me figure out whether I have cocks, hens, or one of each. I'm also not certain what variety these guys (gals?) are.

The one without the white is just starting to holler, and the two are always together. They have been friends ever since we got them

Sorry about the way the image codes are displayed. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I tried posting the IMG links from my photobucket account. I'll keep playing with it and see if I can fix the errors.

If your image is stored on your computer you can add it to your reply by scrolling over the "insert image" button and then click "browse" then locate your image and hit the ok button and it will appear in the reply window. You do not have to use photobucket here anymore.

You've got two pretty boys!

The one without white looks like he's a regular India Blue, and he's probably a bit less than a year old.
The other guy seems to be a pied but a pied expert will have to tell you more about him.

Congratulations and...

I have suspected that the IB is a male because of the reddish brown wing feathers, but what gives it away on the pied bird?

For the India Blue, it isn't only the rust flight feathers that give it away.
Those barred (dark and light striped) feathers on the wings say: Boy!
And...gals are not blue.

Here's our boy Twig at around 8 months with his mommy:

And here's some guys and gals together...the difference should be clear:

Your pied boy also has barring on his wings.
His long tail feathers also say "boy."

Thanks!

I was hoping that I had at least one hen, as I'd like to breed them in the future. Oh well. I guess I'll just have a good excuse to get some more birds!

Hi I have the same question, can anyone tell me if I have male or female and which one is what ??? Thank you for any input, They are 5-6 months old now!!
