Awesome very re assuring they are chirping alot havnt heard a crow though.Leaning towards pullets at that age. By 4 months the males have started getting there longer feathers in the crest hackle and saddle areas.
Thanks im smittenHi, welcome to BYC!
At 4 months I'm thinking the grey one is a pullet. Non bearded obviously
The black one, I almost feel like doesn't even have a walnut comb? Will also note that I have a very hard time telling my blues from my blacks in Silkies. Still looks like a very small comb. So either female or late developing male.
They are both beautiful babies!![]()
Hanks for the info about behaviourI would lean toward pullets. When I had Silkies, the roosters already had much more pronounced walnut combs even at a few months old and the hens were more flat like your two kids there. No guarantees of course, but if I were a betting person I would say hens.
It is possible that my kids just had really large combs though... It might be possible to guess based on how they act though... my roosters were very conscious about what was going on around them, watching actively and with interest. My hens were all kind of just sitting contentedly most of the time even as chicks. The noticed I was there, but were not guarding the flock.
It might be the way the plumage is coming in?? I have no idea i think its adorableI'm wondering where the gray one got the barring on some feathers below it's tail. I've never seen barring on silkies.
I also was wondering about that barring.I'm wondering where the gray one got the barring on some feathers below it's tail. I've never seen barring on silkies.
