I have the 6 quart KitchenAid mixer I say go with the biggest you can get. I make bread with mine and love it. My mom got the smaller one and is not as pleased. My mixer also has the lift type for the bowl and my mom's is a tilt head back type. I agree with others like chickens you will want to expand your horizons.

Also, check ebay there are great prices there. I have the ice cream attachment and talk about butts getting bigger - once you try homemade ice cream you'll never buy at store again!! I also just ordered the shredder/slicer meat grinder and sausage stuffer. A website called Appliance Zone had the best price on the ice cream attached $60+ and everyone else $90-$100.

If you need anything else just let me know.

I signed up on Bed Bath and Beyond for their newsletters and such and was emailed a 20% off coupon to use in store. If you have BB&B near you, it will save you shipping as well.

I have the Pro600 and love it. I make a lot of whole wheat breads/rolls/pretzels/etc. , so the heavier duty motor was important. It handles everything wonderfully. My cousin, a chef, was given the artisan as a wedding gift. They ended up trading it in and upgrading to the pro series after their first attempts at bread loaves (they make several batches, one after another, and then freeze them) and they could hear the motor straining. They've had no issues since.

You can buy a smaller bowl for the Pro600 for smaller batches.

Here's Brutus, he can't even fit under the counter.

We must get 2 or 3 a month mailed to us. I used one last weekend to buy a toaster/convection oven for my "outdoor kitchen". Don't want to use the oven in the kitchen when its 104 outside.

They used to take Linen's and Things coupons too before they went under. I think at our store they have a pile of coupons under the register and will hand you one if you need it. Its worth asking them.

Angie, I think you just tipped the scale for me. I think the Pro 600 will be it. I dont want to get a smaller one and then be sorry I didnt get the bigger one for not much more money.

You won't regret it. I love mine.

I went through the same thought process, and for an appliance that I intend to have for many many years it was worth spending the bit extra to get what I really wanted. It has paid for itself time and time again.

Ebay? Are they new are used? Is it safe to buy something like that on ebay?

So far the cheapest price that Ive found for a white one is $350, shipping included, from Amazon. I could get a red one for a little less than 300, but I dont think I could deal with red. I think licorice is also cheaper than white, but I dont think black would do good in my kitchen. Im stuck with white.

Yes, I buy on ebay all the time. I bought my mom's mixer that way. Just read the description the seller will tell you if new or used. A LOT of stuff on ebay is new and sold by Internet retailers just as an avenue for more sales. Check shipping cost - MOST IMPORTANT!! set a limit for bidding and STICK to it. You can easily get caught up in the bidding thing and end up paying too much. TIP: When you bid you can set your maximum bid and the site will raise accordingly. Example: bid $50.00 and current price is $20.00 bids will go to $50 stop or if the auction closes below maximum you get that price.

Good luck - if you have more questions, please ask I have never been disappointed with what I have gotten.
