Help me with my DH's anniversay present.

What he REALLY wants is a new chicken coop!!!!!!!

(What about getting him a nice rescue dog with a known temperament that will fit right into your household? Check the purebreed rescues, good dogs are out there needing homes. AND you can still afford that chicken coop that he really needs!)

1. he doesnt care for chickens he just ignores them
2. we prob. move to Ft Knox where you cant have chickens
3. most of the rescue pugs around here are from puppy mills be it puppies, ex breeders that are done or psycho ex-pets that came from puppy mills.

THe problem with those are they are enabling puppymills to produce more puppies. Going to the holmes county dog auction and "saving" a puppy there is not helping them. They are still as unhealthy and psycho-damaged . The puppy mill still made profit from the sale. I'd love them, but i might as well drive down there a bit myself , which i refuse. I refer to the ones from the first rescue, the rest are mostly bugs, chugs and puggles.....

The particular pup I was looking at came from the pound. BUGS. I agree that this particular Rescue and some others is enabling the puppy mill industry. I'm glad your doing your research before obtaining a pug. Best of luck.

I always try to do as much research as i can. I want a animal to live a healthy fun life. I know that i prob end up buying high end dog food that is holistic and contains no bad stuff. Not every dog is like our Cindy and can deal with the cheap stuff. I looked into the by nature brand which seems to be real good . Here is a link for dog food reviews

Of those 3, of which I can't stand, I would have to say go with the english bulldog. Pugs make that nasty nasal sound and need quite a bit of vetrinary care. Chihuahua's are snippy, yappy, shaky little things. bulldogs at least don't have MAJOR issues - hip trouble like most pure breeds, but not the high maintenance the other two breeds are.

I cant afford a bulldog they are atleast 1800-2000$, we had a Chihuahua(who died of old age) and he was a darling, but with us having a 50pound dog an three kid a CHi wouldnt be too safe. My DH loves that snorting and snoring and would appeciate some slow walks to keep fit. Oh and my SIL is a vet tech so that will help us.

Can I jump in for a sec...No I have no experience in Pugs or Bulldogs so I won't offer an opinion on them but... I curently have 2
chis 1 female & 1 male and have had many over the years ...yes they can be nippy, shakey, yappy ect... as pointed out, but I have to admit my female is 15 years old and has only snapped(not bitten) 1 time with a child (my child)only because of mistreating her... anyway with that said she was raised her whole life around 5 kids & 7 grandkids and never have there been any problem with her, my male is almost 2 and also non aggressive...I used to be with the humane society in a group called pals which means pets are loveable society. What I am trying to get at is that ALL animals have good & bad traits and since I have babied & spoiled all mine I have NEVER had a mean, hard to handle chi. They have been my best pets! In most cases they live longer than any other breed period! My point is it is in the way they are treated that detemines most of their actions! Good Luck on your decission!

So true that they can live long. Chico was 15 years old, we got him when my DH's granny died. People just never bother to train them right because they are so little oh and what could they possibly do... thats where you get the terror Chis from.

I would say a pug is your best bet. Yes, they snort and snore and have gas just like my bully but you get used to that. My English Bulldog was $2000. Then we had to pay another $800 to get her an eyelift. Not to mention the skin/fungus/yeast and gas (Yes,Beano works for dogs)issues. She is the sweetest/dumbest dog in the world but it always seems that mutt animals usually have less problems then purebred. Just my experience.

As i mentioned i already checked for the good food that wont cause intestional problems. Even if it costs more. After all how much can a pug eat.??

Aside from a lot of health issues that occur in pugs, around here (AZ) they run about 600 papered. My sister in law has a pug/chi mix and he is so healthy, a turd but healthy. Is purebred the only option? Puggles are super cute and would run less than 400 usually. I have 2 French bulldogs and find the snoring endearing, but they have been a bugger to housetrain and are expensive to buy and maintain. I will say though after having Frenchies I will never be without one again.
