Hello people, as mentioned before in a previous post of mine, my rooster Luke does not have a beak. Will this stop him from mating with hens? He has no way to catch the hens without a beak! Please answer my question!

I have no idea. Animals adapt as well as they can and it's amazing how well they do sometimes. How does he eat? Can he preen himself at all?

Have you ever seen him mating? Is it his whole beek or is it trimmed? I would assume that if it is just a trimmed beek he'd be fine mating. I hope you figure it out!

I would think that if he can't catch and hang onto the hens he would have to have really good balance and a really interested hen to get anything done. Fertility may be nonexistant or hit and miss? Good Luck!

Thank you guys for the feedback! And his whole beak is missing, I have seen him trying to catch a hen of mine, but he usually fails because she runs away.

Well, when I got Luke, he was a baby chick, I kept him in my room being new to raising chickens and all. He was about a month old when it happened. Every night he'd cheep cheep cheep until he fell asleep, until one night, he woke me up because he was chirping like crazy, I blew it off, thinking, "oh he just woke up, he'll fall back asleep later". I woke up in the morning to find him bloody, missing his beak with just his little tongue hanging there. I went on a rampage demanding to know what happened. Until I remembered something my sister asked me that same night. She asked me if I could help her find her pet rat that had gotten loose. I put two and two together. The rat chewed off my chickens beak! I even found rat poops beside Luke's cage to back up my theory. So now Luke is a year and 2 months, still no beak. He has adapted to his change but I have to take extra special care of him. I would seriously do anything for that little guy :) and of course I can post pics! He's gorgeous!
