HELP - Mille Fleur D'Uccle Chicks with outside toe tucked under (PICS)

WALMART carries the poly visol(NO IRON) infant vitamins-. If you can't find it ask, it usually is tucked with infant products but, you never can tell. Just be certain to get the kind with NO IRON.

The babies must be adorable with their snowshoes. WE need pictures. Hope they all do well for you.

I will call Walmart tomorrow. I looked all over the baby section and didn't see it. Maybe they have it near the pharmacy or something.

I will take some photos tomorrow. We ended up using scotch tape on the last 2-3 pairs of feet because these banty feet are so tiny and delicate cardboard is kinda overkill at this point.

Oh yeah, I forgot all about the vitamins. Good point.
And, pictures would be awesome!

"We started with 16 mille fleur d'uccles, and removed 2 before lockdown. Of the 14 that have made it to lockdown, 7 have hatched. Five out of seven have the same toe problem. We have 7 more mille fleur d'uccles in the bator, but only 2 have pipped. I don't think the 5 that haven't pipped are likely to make it. sad"

I was wondering about the fleur d'uccles, are they very similar to the porcelain d'uccles that Rin was trying to hatch? So it sounds like you could get 9 out of 14 with more than half having this foot problem. Yeah, sad.

Glad to hear that the rescue chickens are doing so well. Give em some extra treats and tell them they're from Sue.

I found a question posted in a D'Uccle breeding quarterly newsletter by someone with the exact same problem. He is the question:

I sometimes find my hatched out chicks have their outside toe tucked under. I have remedied this by applying a piece of tape to the bottom of the foot and wrapping it around like a slipper to keep the toes spread out flat. It does the trick in a day or two, but could this be a genetic problem, an incubation issue, or what?

Now I could not find an answer to it in the next newsletter, but it looks like D'Uccles may be susceptible to this issue. At least the tape method seems to resolve it in only a day or two!
