Help! Mom pecked baby as it was hatching

Unfortunately little one with the disfigured bill died this afternoon. I have no idea why. I had been making sure it got some water. It was definitely a little smaller and less steady on its feet but I felt all in all it seemed healthy. Poor little baby. It fought so hard to get out of that egg and had to endure a psychotic mother hen. Very upsetting that it passed.

I’m really disappointed in all the Mandarin eggs. I don’t know if it was just a bad batch or what. But out of 8, 2 spoiled completely within about 3 days and then 3 more spoiled about 2 weeks later. Then 2 babies that died. Geesh! This has been just a horrible process!

I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart just broke when I saw this! You did the best you could though but it still hurts.

I use steptic powder. That will clot but chick needs it now. Cornstarch or flour like mentioned is great but not as quick.
I would also put a wet paper towel rung out over it to prevent drying out. Once bleeding stops, turn it over onto paper towel now and now its a bandaid. Keep until hatched.

I never put my hens together when sitting. Its gonna b ok.
