So I was sitting in my house when my 8yo came running in and said the chickens are dead. So I ran out and found the dog attacking one of my hens. We thought one was eaten, but we found her. The one injured had all its feathers and skin taken off on her left leg and on her belly. I have cleaned her up and she is in the chicken hospital. What all can I do?

I'm sorry to hear about that.

First, keep her calm, keep her warm, and keep her on a clean surface (towel for example)

Second, make sure she is eating and drinking, especially vitamins and electrolytes

Third, mammal saliva can be toxic to birds so she probably needs to go on antibiotics. Along with this, you will want to start putting ointment on the wound (unless it is really large). Keep it clean. You may want to wrap the leg so she doesn't peck at it or it doesn't rub against anything.

This might be a situation where only a vet can help. We don't have the money to go to the vet, and others can't find vets in their area, but if you can, I would suggest taking your bird to an avian vet.

I hope she gets better soon!
