help!!!! my 5 week old duckling is constantly panting

Thank you :)
I think it's from him being too hot,
he only seems to pant when hes really warm.
but I was wondering, how old must my muscovy be until i can tell if he's a female or male?

You can guess by having a look at the tail of a muscovey. I think a boy points up more and a girl has more of a pointing down tail but this would be a guess only. You may have to wait until it starts to get the colour around it's face. I go by a boy muscovey being a lot larger than a girl if you have a lot of them. Boy muscoveys do pant a lot too.

He's my only one but he likes to be around people.
He does have a black tail that he started growing, it's his "big boy" feathers haha.
It does indeed point up.
maybe he's a male then?

What about a drink for him more often?maybe running around with you around the house is poopin him or her out

I had on that panted alot too but has turned out just fine

My peking drake duckling pants sooo much, he just gets flaming hot. It freaked me out for a while, I thought maybe he was sick or had a respritory infection or something. I think he's just a hot little duck. but with all the labored panting I put him on antibiotics just incase. This has been going on for nearly a week now, without it getting any worse, so i guess its just that he's a fat hot duckling. lol.

yeah it seems to be only when he's hot which is good!
I am very watchful of him though and I'll always make him take a drink of water.
he'd rather be with me than quench his thirst hahah

My baby is doing the same thing! He/she is a silver appleyard by guess and just started doing this. I'm very worried! She grew very fast and is a big ol thing. She is hot to the touch and keeps panting when laying down. I put her in the bath tub to cool her down. I am worried too. Update us on how she/he does!!

If she is hot to the touch and panting, there are two possibilities. (I don't know her age, by the way). She could be too warm. Or, she could have a respiratory infection and needs a vet.

If no vet is possible, then please treat her for infection.

She is 4 weeks old. Today she is doing much better! It's been two days with antibiotics twice a day and she has cooled down and is not panting or breathing hard anymore. Occasionally she breaths heavier but not like before. She has been running around all day and playing! Thank you!
