Help :'( my babies are dead and I Don't know why

I didn't even hatch them :'( we are first time chick parents and hit a bump in the road we didnt foresee happening. so now we hope we have smoothed out our bumpy patch and can now grow our little farm family

I know from keeping parrots and other birds indoors that air quality is very important. Teflon fumes from overheating a nonstick skillet can kill birds indoors. So can burning incense and scented candles. When you paint indoors you have to move your birds out until there's no more paint smell.

Did the light come in contact with the plastic container? Maybe there was something toxic in the plastic if it was made in China.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your next brooding experience goes better. Maybe could you try putting some air holes halfway down the tote container for better ventilation? I used a livestock trough for my brooder, it was more open than a tote. When the ambient temperature changed I had to adjust the height of the brooder bulb (I used a red 250 W) but I didn't change bulbs.

Thats weird. 3' wide is plenty big, and I use 75watt regular lights all the time. Seems they could of got away from the light, or under it, so I dont think heat or lack of was the issue. I'm leaning towards thinking they may of been sick.

Before you get any more, I would keep an eye on that one and see how it does, and either way, either but the new ones in a totally seperate brooder with different feeders and waterers, or sterilize the waterers and feeders. You can sterlize your big contaiiner by pouring like a quart of bleach in it, filling it full to the top with water, and soaking for a day in the sun.

I changed the bulb to jst a ceramic heat bulb. its keeping the bin around 92. I put cardboard around the edges to help retain some heat that the plastic would not retain. I also put holes in the side of the container for better ventilation. and got Pine shavings. my chick is now back to how she was wen i first saw her. I think it must have been a combination of things that I have now fixed. Thank you so much everyone for the help <3 If i ever figure out how to post pics ill get some up

The only thing jumping out at me is something I recently heard from a chicken expert at a seminar. Are you SURE that you had pine shavings and not cedar? He said that cedar is toxic to chickens and definitely never to put chicks in cedar bedding.
