I'm in the middle of making Oatmeat Raisin cookies and my brown sugar has hardened! Does anyone know a trick to get it soft in a hurry? I think there's a way to do it with a microwave but I don't own one. Can someone help me???

Put an oven-safe bowl full of hot water in the oven and put the sugar in a different bowl. Place them both next to each other on the rack and put the oven on it's lowest setting.

Mom told me to do this once. I ended up whacking my lump of sugar with a hammer handle though, and then crunching it the rest of the way with a rolling pin. I was having anger issues that day

I keep mine in a tupperware container with a piece of bread now. The bread keeps it soft. I got tired of it getting hard before I could use it all. Never tried the food processor to break it up, good idea.

The blender broke it apart enough for me to mush it by hand. Luckily, the inside was still soft! I like the oven idea and I'll definitely do the bread idea.
Cookies are in the oven now!!!

Thanks everyone!
