HELP!!! My chicken is injured and I don’t know what to do!!

UPDATE: I cleaned the wound with a rag and water and tried to flush it out as best as I could but it still wasn’t perfectly clean. I used antibiotic ointment as well, she is in real pain as she was crying out in pain as I washed it :( I wrapped it up real good with gauze and wrap and I separated her from the flock along with one of her best hen friends she gets along best with so she’s not alone. Here’s what she looks like now, all bandaged up:

I hope I did the right thing, I really tried my best but I’m worried that I didn’t get the wound clean enough :( I hope she’ll be okay

Chickens are amazing! There are threads here about chickens surviving wing amputation.

If you can wrap her wound without pinning her wings to her body that would be best. They use them for balance.
Sadly it’s kinda too far up on her shoulder for me to wrap individually. I tried but the wrap just slipped off. I’m trying to be careful about wrapping around the wings, though, as I want her to still be comfortable and have an easy time breathing so I made sure I could fit a few fingers underneath the bandage.

I think you are doing great. I have administered ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. It was also prescribed to one of my hens by an avian Vet. I used the infant dye free stuff and dose at a maximum of 4.5mg PER POUND a couple timesa day. I might be a little hesitant if an avian Vet hadn’t prescribed it. In all honesty, I don’t remember the dose she prescribed. Here is a link that takes about dosing.

Also, can you share wheither the bone itself has been compromised?

Okay thanks! I am pretty certain that the bone itself is fine as it is a small opening, and I’m hoping it stays that way. :fl It could be a lot worse if it were broken.

UPDATE #2: I checked on her this morning and her wound made remarkable progress! It looks like it’s already starting to close up! But I have a question: should I keep the bandage on all the time or give her certain periods to let her wound air out?
Here’s what it looks like now:

That looks good. I do not like bandages for wounds. I would trim any feathers that are getting into the wound, and leave it open with the ointment on. If she is on bedding a clean old towel or paper towels can keep the pine shavings out of her wound. Just add clean paper towels as needed, and remove the soiled ones.

I don’t think it needs bandaged as long as it’s kept clean. Trimming feathers back will help with that. Keeping it slightly moist will help healing too. With it being in a location with a lot of movement you don’t want the skin to get dry and tight.

Lookin Good! Keep it up!
