Help! My chicken stopped eating and has had a fever since 4/23 - a week ago Saturday!

Flo got one 81 grain aspirin per day for a year.

Some chickens are so smart and affectionate that I will do practically anything for them to help them live and enjoy life a bit longer. But when the end of all that comes, I don't hesitate to end it.
thanks - what I'm really struggling with now, is how to end it....

I would call the vet and see if they're willing to put a chicken to sleep. I'm sorry, I know it's hard from personal experience to make that decision but it could mean a better end

Yes, if she is still alive, that’s what we’ll do. I just hope he doesn’t suggest any of the more violent methods and I hope he’ll go out to my car so she isn’t around a lot of barking…

RIP Blondie. Here she is in better days, when she could still walk, and then yesterday afternoon dozing in a favorite spot (with lemons to keep her from tipping over...)

She passed early this morning about 3:30am... I woke up and she had a really high fever again. I gave her some water and took her outside where there was a cool breeze, which had helped her the night before. But after about a minute she started having a very violent seizure that lasted too long, and then she passed. I've had chickens die in my arms before, but the spasm has been pretty short, and then they are gone. I suspect she was having a seizure due to the fever... If I'd known she would pass like that, I definitely would have gone to the vet yesterday or the day before... I didn't want to see her go like that. She was a very loved and well-cared for little chicken.

The vet said she wouldn't make it past her first winter... and she just turned 3.

Aw! She was beautiful. Kinda looks like my Nug Nug and Downy. I lost them a few weeks ago due to gnats. I'm sorry about her passing. It sounds like she had a great life.
Thank you, we are really missing her, especially because she was a house chicken... and I'm so sorry about Nug Nug and Downy!! I didn't know that gnats could kill chickens!!!
Just curious, since they looked a little like Blondie, what kind of breed or mixture of breeds do you think she might have been? Her eggs were either greenish or blueish so I figured she at least had some americauna/ easteregger in her..

I had 3 chickens die in all. I believe 2 from suffocation and 1 from blood loss. Nug Nug and Downy were Golden Laced Sebright hen over BB Red OEGB roo. They were miracle babies. They came from eggs that had been in the fridge for up to a week. And they came from the first 5 eggs that pullet laid. The only eggs she laid before she died. I figure Blondie was an easter egger. I thought that before you ever said anything about blue eggs. Just confirms my suspicions.
