HELP!!! My chickens are dying....

Ok, I talked with a local "expert", the lady at my local TSC, ha.. After doing more research and stepping back from the ledge (mareks disease), we both think it may be imbalanced diets along with loads of stress from the move. I have increased protein in take, added electrolytes to water, and providing more protein. Will keep updated for those that care!

I also have contacted my states agricultural department, results need to be sent to our vet, so if another one passes away I am ready to send in for necropsy.

Thank you all for your help!

PS... Black spots are a new thing. I just started noticing them this week within the change.

What type of dietary change are you implementing?

It will be important to check the mill date on any feed that you buy. You want the freshest possible this shows you how https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/watch-your-mill-dates.1222155/

First, in their last pen, something I took for granted, they were getting their "grit" naturally. It was a sandy small rocky area. New area, wooded, tall grasses, more vegetation and less rocky surface. So adding grits is huge. Lack of protein, going back to starter feed for a little while. Cutting corn feed for a month or so. Adding vitamins to both water and feed.

Anything else you'd suggest?

If they are not used to having fresh green grass to snack on they may over do it. Grit will help but cutting back the grass so it’s not as available may help as well. If they are pigging out on it it could bind up in their crop. Something else to think about it.
