Recently I went outside to find my red Sexlink with a very deep cut on her comb. It looked like someone got a knife and cut her but of course we did not do that. I'm thinking she got cut from a fence or something sharp in the yard. Once I found her I immediately put hydrogen peroxide and some antibiotic ointment on the cut and isolated her from her sisters because they want to peck at the bits of blood on her comb. The next day, I looked at her and it seems as if the wound is very deep on her comb and I'm thinking there are not many options to help her. I found that some people cut or dub the combs that are injured but I could never do that because I don't want to hurt her. It also looks like she could get stiches to sew the comb back to the remaining comb but going to the vet is very very expensive. Can anyone help me out? I'm just trying to figure out if I should take her to the vet or let it heal. I will add some pictures to show you what it looks like.

i would let it heal. just keep it clean and apply ointment daily to help with healing. its no big deal and nothing to worry about. she can live with a cut comb and will be fine. just make sure it is completely healed before returning to the others

It’s ok. Let it heal.
A couple dogs got in our yard a while ago and two chickens got out through a hole in the wire but this one, Nugget, but she couldnt get out and got cut badly! I was so I’m shock and didn’t know what to do that I didn’t give her medicine also she’s really hard to catch because she doesn’t trust me yet.

Your hen will be fine!

Check around the fence and check for blood, or just any open places that she could get cut from, and fix it.

It did actually, it’s all healed up! Now the little baby just has a flap on her comb, but she’s so adorable!!
