Help! My chickens just started laying their confused

Hi! One of my girls just started laying! ( on July 1 I may have 2 laying) I have 3 nesting boxes! Sometime during the night while they were perching one laid an egg! Is this normal!!!
Hello, LaLonnie, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Yes, it's normal.
They are new layers. They will learn the routine soon enough.
Do you have fake eggs in the nest boxes? Have they checked them out yet?

Yes..pretty normal for a brand new layer.
Give them a few weeks to work out the kinks.

The first time I found an egg under the roost (when they first started laying) I laughed out loud at the thought of the poor girl having no clue what was happening & that egg just falling out in the middle of the night!

Aww thanks everyone! I now have one laying by their water in the run ‍♀️ But I did fine 3 in the nesting boxes! Yes we have fake eggs in the nesting boxes

Yep, normal......they'll figure it out.
New layers can be quite goofy acting, they don't know what they are doing at first and can be confused and anxious, it can take up to a month or so before they get it all figured out. Putting some fake eggs or golf balls in the nest might help show them where to lay. They may scratch around in the nests for weeks before laying, spreading the bedding everywhere. They will scratch around a bit less in nest as they get used to the routine. Meanwhile, eggs everywhere, some of them can be rather funky looking, soft or thin shelled, huge double yolked eggs.
