My young chickens started laying nicely. Normal eggs in the laying boxes but now I am getting more rubber super thin eggs than regular ones. I am giving them lay feed and even putting oyster shell in the food to help but I am still getting these. One thing is it has been super hot here so not sure if this is affecting them. Can that cause these eggs? Since they are new layers could I have one that just has something wrong with it and will always lay these eggs that are always broken as they are so thin. Will this work itself out. It has been happening for about a week now.

I have gone out 2 mornings in a row to find a chicken has laid egg like this as well. The first one I thought maybe I should up something in their feed. I think it may be the one that as just started laying and it working the kinks out of here system. I haven't found anymore this week.

Put the oyster shell in a separate free choice container. Put in crushed eggs shells, my hens seem to like this better.

Mine prefer eggshells to oyster shell, too. I read on BYC somewhere that you should only give them shells from your own eggs - not from store bought eggs. The reason was a concern about disease, particularly salmonella.

As your shell's are thin, not sure feeding them back would be of much help but is certainly worth a try.

I used to put this calcium stuff in my chickens water. I also gave them crushed, dried, egg shell. Also, give them scraps from your kitchen with high calcium. This is what I did & it seemed to help. Wishing you the best!

I have around 40 years experience raising chickens. I have a few ? to ask to better assist you. 1] Are these young hens laying for their first season? 2] How large is their living space? 3]Do they have access to sand? Most importantly, have they begin to bust and eat the eggs yet? look forward to hearing from you.

This has been some of the girls' first year laying. So I hope that she is trying to work out any kinks.
