HELP! My dog wants to eat my chickens!

Yeah you are saying that pointers are the only one breed for birds in U.S

The way I read it is German Pointer owners pretty much only have these dogs for bird hunting, not for house pets.

ohhhh gotcha! We have quail hunting going on this week. Yes there is quail hunting in the desert (because of Salton Sea). I wonder if I take my cocker out there if he could get me a few

I never thought of actually taking him hunting but by the way he is determined to get my chicks maybe he would be good. You hunt with your Pointer?

I have four dogs (labs and a Golden) and many chickens. We had that problem in the beginning and my husband trained them to stay away from the chickens. He put the chickens in their mouth forcibly and then spanked them. Neither the chicken or the dogs had any lasting harm done. They now all eat side by side and we havent had any problems since then. Of course, we still do not leave the dogs unsupervised with the chickens except for one lab who now sleeps in the coop with the chickens and guards for predators. The dogs decided that they much preferred chasing oppossums to chickens. BTW my chickens are VERY domesticated. We let them roam outside in the yard during the day and they "knock" at the door when they want more attention.

Hmmm this actually might work because spanking got my dog to stop a few behaviors when we first got him. I half think he just wants them in his mouth because they chirp like his toys squeak. Not sure though- he might really want to eat them
