Help my dog was hit by a car!!

First, if she has open wounds, DO NOT wrap it. You they create a cover that done not allow the wound to drain, therefore the bacteria and pus builds up in the wound making it worse.

That's what the vet tells me. I would NOT wrap it. Let it drain.

tiffanyh, Is peroxide ok to help kill bacteria or should Nuggetsowner:) just keep it clean and not put anything on it?

High concentrations of peroxide can cause scabbing, which ultimately can lead to a "sealing" of the wound. But if you dilute it with warm water, it can work well. A mild soap with warm water can work well. Ideally, if it in a spot where you can soak it 2 to 3 times a day, that would be best. If that not possible, a warm compress a couple times a day is good too. Flushing it and allowing the bacteria to move its way out of the wound is the goal.

So allowing the animal to lick the wound is ok too? I've always been told that if the wound scabs over the infection can't get out and spreads inside the body, licking keeps the wound from scabing over.

I hope Nuggetsowner:) gets back online to read this soon.

I also would think that you are not seeing pus this soon. Maybe it is just oozing trying to heal it self. Keep her in a clean environment and let her take care of it after you have cleaned it out. She is going to be sore.....but if she is walking on it she might be okay.....You will kow more in the morning

let her take care of it after you have cleaned it out.

Please dont let her take care of it. It is not true that dogs/cats have clean mouth. Her licking it WILL create and introduce more bacteria. Hey, you dont brush your teeth EVER and what do you expect!

That makes since. How can she keep her from licking it? That sounds like a problem. I know I'm just jumping in here with a bunch of questions but I hate it when animals are hurt. I'm just trying to think of all the questions Nuggetsowner:) would be asking if she was logged on right now so when she does log on on they're already answered.
