Help my dog was hit by a car!!

The new mind set is that you wrap it.
She does not need to lick it.......and by wrapping it the wound holds in moisture which is the environment needed for healing.
I am not a vet but I am a medical professional.
I do believe you should take her to the vet.
I am treating an open wound on my kitten and the vet agreed that it should be wrapped.
That is how I would treat it.....I do pet rescue and I have treated many wounds over the years.
I understand we all have different opinions and different things can work. GOOD LUCK to you.
I do wish you could take her to the vet.

You all are sooo wonderful to be so concerned about my pet! She is not doing much better this morning and had a pretty rough night.

We rinsed her wounds last night with the saline solution and tried wrapping her leg. We actually had to wrap it twice. She did not like it and chewed it off.. I did apply neosporin also.
We also spoke to a breeder fried of ours last night and he told us to watch for other signs of infections which she is now showing. She is constantly thirsty and is not voiding as much as she should be for the amount she is drinking. So DH is going to take her to the vet this morning. I have to work. We will explain the $$ situation and hope for the best. Tears flow as I write this... Hopefully everything will be fine!

I hope you get a good report at the vet's office.

I'm sure they will work out something with you on the $$ - they are used to dealing with folks who's money is tight.

Let us know how she does!

I'm hoping it's nothing more than an infection. They'll just give her some meds and she's bounce right back. I hope you get some good news soon. It's really hard when you know your pet is hurting, I understand what you're going through.

Well, the news was mixed. She does have a couple of fractures and an infection. They cleaned all her wounds and gave us the option of surgery - pins and whatnot for the fractures - or splint and stabilizing it the best we can and she will probably walk with a limp. No more hunting. But no major bill either. Well... We had to do the splint she will be our house dog now, which will be just fine, she actually spent enough time in the house anyway! She is on antibiotic and we have to watch her to be sure she doesn't chew the splint off. She has tried today to put weight on it. But the infection is what we are worried about now. She did get some fluid through an IV today with a booster antibiotic in it and now we will just give her pills. We hope everything will be OK!! Thank you all so much for your kind words and well wishes. She is such a sweet girl! I will try to find a pic for you all! Thanks again!

I finally found a pic of my Katie for you...

Not the best picture. At the time she had a little scrape on her nose. You all must think she is always hurt:(!

I am just happy to report that she has been getting up a little easier tonight and she laid and rested by me the entire evening without really stirring too much. She just seems to be doing better:)

I'm so happy you took her to a vet. I'm sure her recovery will go well now. She has the sweetest little face!

You know - don't feel too bad. Everyone's animals get hurt from time to time, especially the ones that enjoy the great outdoors. I just can't stress the importance of timely vet care! My Shih Tzu was hit by a slow moving (meaning, mother forgot to set her parking brake) vehicle a couple years ago...I had her to the vet, credit card in hand, in 15 minutes. Had I waited, she would have died from a punctured lung.

Jingles for Katie!
