Help! My duck has an injured foot!

We just had a mishap with our pet duck breaking it's toes. ALL of them. It could eat and drink, but couldn't even hold itself up. :'( We took a piece of plastic, traced it's foot and used medical tape to tape to it's foot so it could heal properly. Our local wildlife rehab center told us to keep it like this for 2-3 weeks and no swimming in the meantime. It's so sad to watch, but it's been 9 days and it is now holding itself up well, walking and trying to fly back down to the lake! :) Good luck!!

Oh wow. Poor baby. Glad your duck is doing better! I have her secluded still in my bathroom in a kennel. She will probably stay in there for a several days at least. She's not happy, though, and neither are her playmates outside. lol I soaked her foot in epsom salt solution and put some Blu Kote on it. She is drinking. I have some fresh water out and some water with electrolytes.

I think my duck was grabbed by a fish or turtle. Part of her webbing was ripped! She is inside right now in a dog kennel. It doesn't look infected, but she can hardly walk.
It must be snapping turtle season or something. I am dealing with the exact same wound but ours is worse. The bite between the outside and middle toe exposed the toe bone and there is some tearing between the other toe as well. It looks like yours is putting weight on it. That is a good sign. Mine is not putting weight down at all. We first treated with Betadine, Epsom salt soaks and Blue Kote. I am still using the Blue Kote and giving antibiotics.

Did you get the snapper? We are putting bait out

So glad to hear yours is doing well.

She was only inside for a few days before she decided she had had enough of the cage and broke our while in my bathroom. LOL

I had to keep ours inside much longer. She became quite the snapper herself. By the time I put her back in with the others she had perfected grabbing skin and shaking her head like a dog.

Ouch!! Yeah, I was surprised how angry she had gotten, too! When I first got her, she was so gentle and sweet. Now....not so much!
