My duck swallowed a small push pin about 4 hours ago. It was the length of a pinky nail with a small head on it. He seems fine and is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom. I haven't noticed anything unusual or out of the ordinary with him. He is only 4 weeks old. I've been checking every time he goes to the bathroom but so far nothing. Should I be worried or will it pass? Thank you for any help!

Hopefully it will pass or become lodged somewhere where it won't cause harm to him. The body, including in animals, has a way of removing things it finds harmful...just keep and eye on him and if he takes a turn for the worse take him to a vet immediately! I would have one notified just incase so they can be kinda on call.

Thank you. We don't have any vets that are familiar with ducks around here so I've been trying to find a vet since I got him. He's my first duck this is all new to me. I tried to get it from him but he was too quick for me.

It will not pass. An object that large will have gotten stuck in the gizzard, guaranteed. Not only that but pushpins are often coated with nickel or zinc and will cause metal poisoning. What's more, if you had acted immediately it could have been easily extracted with an endoscope. Now he needs surgery or he will die. This is not an exaggeration. This is an emergency and it needs to be treated as such. There is a sharp metal object lodged in your baby and if left there untreated it will be fatal.

Omg, how scary!! So glad she passed it for you. I'm quite surprised, I would've thought it'd get stuck somewhere for sure. What a lucky duck!
